My last day at Path & Focus as lead developer was a couple of weeks ago. These last couple of years, we’ve tried our best to build and sell technology to help people more easily and accurately prepare for and predict wildfires. I think the technology and product we built was great, but we just couldn’t turn it into a sustainable business. It’s a bittersweet ending; on the one hand, this (in one form or another) is saying goodbye to the team I’ve worked with for the past 8 years. In a more optimistic light, it’s an exciting new beginning. I have some anxieties about what comes next, especially from all I’ve heard and read about the current job market for software devs. People who’ve worked with me keep saying that I should be fine, but I can’t help but feel that I have no particular reason to feel immune.

I’m sitting on the train right now on my way back to Copenhagen as my trip to Denmark wraps up. It was fun and a much-needed escape, but also pretty tiring. I do feel excited to be home, which is a nice feeling to have I think, all things considered.

Everything awaiting me is on fire and blanketed in smoke, but I guess that’s another problem, and one that I may not get to help solve anymore.
